We were recently contracted to design, build, and install a motorized shading solution package for a commercial customer in Chandler, Arizona. The client was looking to block the intense summer sun while still allowing light to enter the space. They are a technology company and the sun was creating glare across hundreds of computer screens in their office. After our project consultations, a white/pearl Phifer 1% shading fabric with an aluminum fascia was selected. The automatic shades were powered by ST50R Sonesse RF Quiet Motors hardwired into the buildings existing electrical system. The shades were controlled by a SOMFY MYLINK hub, a 16 channel handheld remote, and a few strategically placed Somfy 5 channel wall switches. The shades were set on a schedule with shades raising and lowering on different days at different times to maximize the energy efficiency of the building.
Our Motorized Shades
The installation was a challenge because of some existing structures in the building that gave us limited access to many of the higher window openings. Each installer on our team worked a total of 26 hours on the job over one weekend and spent most of their time on ladders and lifts. Needless to say, the guys were a little tired at the end of Sunday but we were all proud of the work we accomplished and the finished shading solution. We were able to hand over the Somfy controls to the building manager with a smile on Monday. Their employees are enjoying the automatic shades and the improved comfort in the office.
